Lets say that instead of having memory of the past, we only had memory of the future. Everything that happened in the past immediately becomes unknown, however we know what happens in the future.
Now I know you are thinking, “Ok, that’s a pretty simple concept. Makes complete sense.” But you are wrong. Dead wrong. In fact it doesn’t make much sense at all.
You see, if you know what happens in the future as well as being aware of what is happening in the present your future awareness gains knowledge of the present. But in the future you don’t have memory of the past (which is the present). The concept is broken.
As well you wouldn’t know what you are doing at any point in time because you don’t have any memory of what you were doing just a moment earlier, however you can still accomplish it because your knowledge of the future allows you to know the end goal. Even though your future awareness won’t know how or why you got to that goal.
Luckily time is a completely ambiguous quantity that we only use to explain something we don’t truly understand. Is there a past? Is there a future? Am I here to teach you the moral of living in the present because the past and future don’t exist? No. I am here to tell you that I just invented a fucking time machine.
Awesome.
